Hi Ramblergirl,

TAT websites tend to be outdated & lacking on useful details ;) Suspect that page has not been updated ever since it was created in 2004. More up to date timetables & fares are on www.transport.co.th (the Thai bus company that runs the service) but in Thai language only: http://www.transport.co.th/ticket_udon_vientiane_99.asp
http://www.transport.co.th/ticket_nongkhai_vientiane_99.asp

Khon Kaen-Vientiane & Mukdahan-Savannakhet services have since been added too. Just took the Udon Thani-Vientiane bus on 11 Oct 2008, schedule was as in my photo above. Happy travels!

Just updated with the timetable links including the Ubon Rachathani-Pakse service...but the sites are in Thai language only.

nongkhai-vientien taken 16.5.2009.

is there a bus from the talart sao station to/past/near to the thai embassy for visas?

Anonymous said...

you wont be allowed on the udonthani-vientien bus unless you have a laos visa in your passbook already. you cant get this laos visa in udonthani as there is no laos embassy there(14.5.2009 info). you need to go to nongkhai and catch the bus from nongkhai-vientien to stop and get the visa on the friendship bridge..
cross border trains to vientien are also happening dont know if a pre-issued visa is necessary for the train.

a map of the local vientien bus routes with numbers on a google maps satelite image of vientiane? any takers?
